Abstract:
The data set includes information on public protest events in four large German cities (Leipzig, Dresden, Bremen, Stuttgart) as reported by the cities' respective largest local newspaper. The articles were selected based on a semi-automated procedure involving state-of-the-art transformer-based classification models and were then hand annotated to extract information on place, date, topic, action form, interaction with police, counterprotest, and other variables. The intended covered time period is 2000-2020. Currently, the covered time period is 2011-2020.
