Abstract:
The Sociality Index (SIX) is a measure for the context-related query of social-cultural factors. This measuring instrument, developed at the Centre for Social Research Halle e.V., opens up empirical access to attitudes that exist in diverse regional contexts and reflects the individual perspective of these living environments as well as the assessment of the living and working conditions given there by the inhabitants. Under the basic assumption that spatially related factors with the associated social relationships in the circle of friends and acquaintances, the family, in peer groups, the neighbourhood or in associations and the world of work can influence the social behaviour as well as the attitudes but also the immediate living environment of people in the long term, we examine in the SIX project the subjective perceptions of people in their individual regional contexts. The immediate living environment, especially at the community and district level, appears as an environment that can be experienced, in which locally common habits and behavioural norms are conveyed and socialised. This can lead to generalised trust, which manifests itself in personal and collective self-(effectiveness) and social cohesion ("I trust my fellow human beings, I trust myself to make a contribution, I believe the people here can make a difference").
